Mediacity
by eclecity
Mediacity is a
free digital photo organizer,
a tool for creating slideshows you can put on a Web page
and a tool for authoring video-DVDs.
It's primarily for Linux users as there are
already many programs available for Windows.
It
requires Java 5 to
be
installed. If you don't have it or you need an update,
(all
platforms).
To run
Mediacity, download the file below and put it somewhere convenient,
then go to your command-line
prompt and type
java
-jar mediacity.jar
or to run it using Java Web Start without downloading it, go to a command-line prompt and type
javaws http://eclecity.net/mediacity.jnlp
Using Java
Web Start ensures you always have the latest version
without having to download it manually. If you've never tried
JWS before, give it a go!
(Please note) This project has been overtaken by
events and most of it will not be
developed further.
For example, on Linux DigiKam does
everything and more that Mediacity set out to do for managing photos.
However, the DVD module will be maintained. The next
update to Mediacty
will concentrate on DVD authoring and the photo
organizer module will be dropped.
Some support for photos will be kept, with the
possible addition of a DVD slideshow module.
Similarly, the capture module is likely to stay as its features are not
easy to find in Linux software.
However, the entire project now has a low priority so the likelihood is
that for the next year
or so
it will stay much as it is now.
